    Hard to argue with a purpose designed tool like that. Go for it -- it will serve you well with this and other projects that need to be marked out, at a fixed height, reguardless of the items shape.

    they are good rich i made one at work just make sure the surface is nice and smooth when you use it

    Thanks Andy, I'm going to copy David's idea of sitting the hull on a flat piece of wood and secure it down with string, then mark it out.

    Strings good but I have also found a laser level very useful for marking out longish hulls. (I'm using this at the moment for the Nordenfelts.)

    They sound  a little high tech but they just project a straight, thin red-line. You can get them quite cheaply at DIY stores for levelling shelves etc. (You could also use them for levelling shelves if you are really unlucky!)
