Robert, living in Buxton, Derbyshire. Retired, used to sail, been fling RC planes for years, just started with boats, always been fascinated by submarines. Thinking of building a surface runner, based on a WTC and possibly updating to diving later. Only have 2.4Ghz radio gear at present, so any change from surface would require finding a 27 or 40Mhz set. Will be looking for help with sources for some of the necessary hardware (waterproof connectors, bellows etc).

    Happy Christmas

Hello everyone. My name is Greg.
I joined The Association of Model Submarines because I wanted to find the right home for an Engel 1590-TAES Patrick Henry SSB 599 Serial #79974/79975 purchased in August of 2003 from Alexander Engel KG . This was purchased and belonged to my late brillant father-in-law Jack, assembled this running masterpiece. Jack passed away 10 years ago. It was one of his pride and joys and I want to do him right by getting it into the hands of someone who might enjoy it as much as he did. If I may ask for guidance from someone in the association on what it may be worth and how to advertise it for sale that would be humbling to our family. I have all the paperwork including original purchase receipt and build plans. I also have pictures I can share.

Thanks everyone for your time and I look forward to hearing from someone as passionate for this sub as my father-in Law Jack.

    Kindest Regards,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,

Where are you from (I'm in the UK), because this will determine how best to sell it? (If you want it to go to "good-home" it would probably be best to sell it on a specialist group rather than, say, eBay.)

    Hi Greg,

You would be very welcome to post an ad in the For Sale section here but do stress that you are in the US. (The postal charges would be considerable to anywhere else in the world.)

Also you may be best to post on the SubCommittee which is US based:

    http://www.subcommittee.com/

I see that there is a "Sub Swap" section on their Forum but I don't know if that is available to non-members.(I am a member. Membership is not expensive though.)

Tom may be able to give you some better guidance about the US position, if he sees this.

    David

    Greg,
The subcommittee.com does have a for sale/swap area. It is not restricted, to my knowledge, to members only. So, you could post there as well. If you look around and decide to get into the hobby, membership is $10 USD.
    Peace,
    Tom

    Hi, I'm Martin.
Been building planes and boats for quite a few years, just built a tiny dynamic diver the was produced as a free plan in Model Boats mag.
To say I'm hooked is an understatement. Joined this forum so I could learn more about the subject because I'm in the process of rebuilding an old Sheerline type 7 for a mate of mine.

    Sheerline - lovely stuff!

Try typing Sheerline (or even Darnell) in the search box to the left - that should give you a good start.

Posting photos also helps people know what you are trying to do. (Let me know if you are having any problems with posting photos.)

Good luck with a very absorbing hobby!

not quite sure if this will appear in the right forum but hey ho!
I'm Simon and just joined, having mulled over model subs for a number of years, having built a small 17' open boat some years ago and various mechanical/electronic contraptions I thought I might get round to a real model. I spet lockdown redundancy getting a rough outine design for Seehund and X-class since I am not sure which to try, as a semi-scale, i.e. the general look but may be not too much detail, but bth would be about 1m long.
I'm happy with the overall look, and a rough design but some questions I will try an put in the radio and ballast/diving forums. Still not sure to go with, but he WTC would be the same anyway.
Mind you now being back in a full-time job might slow progress a bit.

    Hello everybody,
I am John Loog from the Netherlands. Building RC boats, aircrafts and now buzy with restoring and old Engel IX D2 U-boot. Interesting technique and mostly new to me. What I like from RC model building is mixing techniques from the different model branches.
As I said submarines are new to me and rather interesting so far. I hope to learn on underwater techniques more on this nice forum.

Hi, I’m Paul & I saw my first model sub at the model engineering exhibition when I was about 9. I think it was a Darnell boat with a peristaltic pump in it.  Fast forward 20 years & I started an OTW type vii. I did finish it but I’ve never really got around to using it or getting it trimmed. Fast forward another 20 years & im doing just that. Currently adding some weathering and awaiting some new o rings and a leveller from Bob.

    Cheers,

That is a beautiful sub! I have a friend that completed a similar sub recently and it looks SO good in the water. whether it is on the surface or cruising below. Look forward to seeing more on this.
    Peace,
    Tom

Hi, I'm Rob.  I served in Royal Navy submarines from 1973 to 1988.  Now retired, I amuse myself by creating 3D computer animations of military systems under my Youtube identity 'vbbsmyt'.  Some of these animations cover torpedoes, including a British 21 inch 1915, Bliss-Leavitt Mk 7 1916, and German G7e 1940.  What I really want to do is create a 3D model of early submarines, starting with the Holland 1.  I noticed that John Lambert made a drawing of Submarine Boats 1-5, and I was wondering where I can get a copy of this drawing.  Can anyone help please.

    Hi Rob and Welcome!

My favourite book at the moment has a copy of that particular drawing on page 26.

"British Submarines in Two World Wars" by Norman Friedman published by Seaforth Publishing.

This thread on here has more information:

    https://www.theassociationofmodelsubmariners.com/t1669-john-lambert-plans?highlight=Lambert

There is a growing, and often very useful, collection of 3D submarine models online. Probably best to start by Googling etc.

Hope this helps get you started,

    David

    Later edit.

Short bit of Googling brought this up? (It is the British one. Any use?):

    David,
Thanks for the advice. I have Norman F's book but the drawings are, unfortunately, spread across 2 pages and I will have to scan and stitch them together to get a usable copy. I have emailed Seaforth Publishing to see if I can buy better drawings, but I suspect they will ignore me, so I will have to try scanning.
    Regards
    Rob
