Model Boat Convention,24th and 25th August, 2012 (Haydock Park near Warrington)

I know this is a long way away but the AMS stand is already booked. A date for your diary - it is the August Bank Holiday.

Jean (The organiser) tells me that they have a special conference rate at the Holiday Inn next door (£104 per night Dinner B&B for two people)

If you are interested I will give you the codes for the booking.

I have just heard from Jean the Organiser that there will be a much better pool this year (Actually more of a tank!) It is 9 metres by 7 metres and 20" deep.(Sorry about the mixed units!)

So even more reason to attend this year and give your sub an airing (wetting?).If you are not an AMS member I am sure that there will be free sailing time slots. If you are an AMS member and you want to exhibit and so get a free ticket please let me know a.s.a.p.

Come along and pay anyway it is a Fiver entrance. A much bigger pool is promised so good to bring a sub to sail.

Dam was going to join up as well to get a couple of passes ah well next year may be :-))))

Not that I am a tight fist or anything but to pay the membership fee and then pay to get into the warrington show would depleat my funds for the rest of the month only live 20 mins away as well and off that weekend ahh well as I said maybe next year

Did not have any problem getting out of the armchair David, I was at the venue took a lot of photos of boats and hovercraft did not see any subs in the pools though.

PS Mark maybe you left early on the Saturday? Subs were sailing Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. Did you call in at the AMS stand? It would have been good to meet you. (The Internet is not everything 8-)

Yes, Richard. The sides were inflatable - I was careful not to puncture it with Resurgams ram!(Actualy very tough material.)

Depth as ordered 20" - again thanks to Jean and the organisers.

You wait until I'm better...me and my new Permit class are going to embark on a world tour of all the UK shows.

David your second link takes me to the u-tube log in page ?? dont know what happend their as to leaving early on Saturday your right unfortunatly wifes work commitments dictated that we left by 13:00HRs. We did call in at the AMS stand having a quiet look at what was on offer from the AMS when a guy in a yellow jumper pounced on us and started to tell us about his submarine on the table which had a few bits in the bow and what looked like a can of gas floating around in the stern that the guy picked up and droped back into the sub saying " I dont know what I am doing with this yet, If you want to ask questions I am here" the guy then started talking to someone else. So we just carried on looking over what was on the table then moved on.
The show on the whole was very good and the wife and I realy enjoyed the variety of boats that were on display, We wern`t at last years show but everyone is saying that this years was better again, then next years will be unmissable, by then I would have probably joined one of the many clubs and would endever to display my subs and support the club I chose to join.

What you have described can happen on any club stand through out the world, the guy that spoke to you may be new to our hobby, but you must give it to him he was keen, as for some people just to stand on a stand and talk to members of the public takes a lot of effort.

I have been in this game from the late 80’s and I do not know all of it, I for one find it very hard to talk to the public about our hobby, come to that I also find it hard to talk about my other club.

It is only with help from fellow members that he will in time be able to talk about his boat, if it was not for the likes of Richard, Alf, Nigel, Steve and the late Bernie Wood and lot’s more of our members I for one would be a bigger fool than I am now.

I am sorry if I may have put you off from joining the AMS with my comments, but I would like to think that any one doing our hobby would help a fellow hobbyist. I hope that at some time in the future we will meet up at a show as fellow AMS members.

I still remember the first one that I did as Events Sec it was an eleven day event, Bernie and I went up every day in that three wheeler of his, was we glad when it was over.
