rc drift stabilizer for cars???

This is on e/bay @ revolutionshop 59535, its for rc cars, but you can put on subs, and its bbloody good @£7. Item is called "Eurgle rc drift stabilizer for cars"

Well I just picked my parcel up from the post office (No not the Russian Bride fortunately!)and I have had a quick play with them and a little comparison with the Bruggen Stamp level controller.

They look very promising although I'm still trying to work out how set them up. Never mind not bothering to read the F***** manual there isn't one! First impression is they seem to be less damped than the Stamp.

2 questions to anyone already in the know:

- 2 trimmers, one setup, one sensitivity - what to do?
- What trimming tool is best to use with the trimmers?

But all in all they look good very good and at that price, hardly worth picking up your soldering iron to make one.Thank you for deskilling me China! (Taiwan actually)

Well I've just had another twiddle of the trimmers and now neither of them is working!

HELP!

I have just had a very helpful phone call from John.

It seems that my "twiddling" may have knocked the end stops off the pots so they are wrecked!

He suggests nothing stronger than a plastic knitting needle. (Not my screwdriver.Ho Hum.)

Sorry Alf I naffed them both good and proper!

I am not used to these tiny surface mount potentiometer. I remember when potentiometers were really something and would hurt your toe if dropped.

So I have gone back to Ebay to buy another one. The moths in my wallet are getting really agitated.

And Alf, what does the "setup" pot actually do? (The "sensitivity" one I understand although I should have use it more sensitively!)

Well, I've got one of the naffed ones going again. (I have just soldered 2 x 10k pots (human size!) in position and it works again.

One thing worries me though. The response is strange. The sensor seems to respond to tilt briefly but then returns the servo to mid position.

Admittedly this is hardly a car stabilizer in peak condition but is there any chance that the sensor in these is a gyro rather than an accelerometer?

it my be will have 2 test in water 2 see the 2 i have are v.q. thay look like thay are from quadcopter teck. pezzo? still fun till thay go puff

John has confirmed my fears that this board uses a gyro not an accelerometer. So not very much good for submarines - very, very fast ones perhaps!

I have just heard from John that he has "modded" one of these boards, which I sent him, and put a standard accelerometer chip in. Very clever!

It's apparently working very well and so could be a route to a very low cost level controller.

SO WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!!!!

Since telephone call this morning had got unit working on sensor on wires off board have now fitted accelerometer chip on to board works fine can not see a problem with it not being able to work in a sub now, like i said this morning had to change two SMD surface mounted devices to get sensitivity but does not seem bad at all now i think it is as good as the ones you can buy made for the job. One of the pots on the PCB board is to set the gain other pot is to set position of servo in mid point but unit does auto set up at switch on

Tested the car stabiliser in ORP Dzik yesterday. Works very nicely.
This now contains the new, more sensitive accelerometer fitted by John.
It is a SMD device so skilled fitting required.
I don't know whether John wants to do this in exchange for some "Readies?"
It is certainly a neat, effective and economical level controller.

I bought one of these, just to try it, and it didn't work at all. Now I see it needs some modification. I'd be interested to see exactly what's involved if you feel inclined to post that information.

Well I must confess that I had a little look at John's handiwork but it is beyond me in skill and technology - it is really tiny!

So you will really need to contact him.(He posts on here regularly.)
