First thoughts are that card models are as useful to model submariners as chocolate teapots but let me suggest some ideas.
Building ORP Dzik (A WW2 Polish U Class submarine) I came across a card model kit produced by the Polish firm Maty Modelarz and supplied by Marcle Models in Amersham.
It didn't cost a lot and I found that the card components had a lot of very useful detail. I also used all the conning tower and the deck superstructure to produce my version in tin plate. (I enlarged them, printed them on paper and stuck them on the tin plate.I then cut and folded the tin rather like the original card. This saved a lot of time on what was meant to be a cheap and cheerful model.)
Of course you may be tempted to actually build a card model - they can look very good. The website has a very large number of ships, aircraft, space vehicles and submarines. A lot of them rather different.
Page 17 of the catalogue, for example, has all the WW2 German mini subs.
