I was very impressed by John's model at Edinburgh. This was to be a turning body submarine which would cross the atlantic in 28 hours!

The spiral is done with windscreen wiper rubber and the body revolves very nicely.

John must be working his way (like me) through the really useful book "The Garrett Enigma and the early submarine pioneers." by Paul Bowers.

This covers a large range of early submarines and includes good drawings.

'Apostoloff' is a fascinating piece of work. It created a tremendous amount of interest at Edinburgh - the first time it had ventured out of doors. To see it sitting there with the centre section turning was fascinating. A great piece of engineering John. I hope I'm around to see it sailing - Barrow maybe?

That's incredible...talk about unusual. Did the full size (I take it there was a full size one?) ever prove itself?

I don't think so - another dream idea from the Victorian "Dragon's Den."

All very well described in the excellent book by Paul Bowers.

It's certainly an amazing vessel...John is obviously a man after my own heart, build a model of something that there isn't a full size version of and to hell with the rivet counters!
