Gentlemen, the AMS Forum Mission Control Headquarters needs your help urgently...

Now the forum is beginning to take off, I really need to keep both PC's fully operational. Due to the size of the monitor on my desktop PC, I cannot move on my desk, everything is delicately balanced on 'stuff', one false move or a large sneeze and the monitor is in danger of taking itself off for an unplanned walk, so I'm on the scrounge.
The monitor I have is well past it's sell by date, it's prone to shutting off at odd times, and the picture controls need constant adjustment to maintain an image I can see.

Has anyone got a smaller monitor they would be willing to part with (preferably a flat screen one, as that would free up much more room) on my desk.

I can't afford to splash out a lot of cash due to my present financial state (you try getting your retirement cheque out of a council) but I'll pay whatever I can raise for a half decent flat screen monitor...

    Can anybody help out?

    Thanks guys,

    Richard

Richard, I have a flat screen monitor that I no longer use.

You are welcome to have it.

The only problem is getting it to you. Postage would be expensive and it would be easily damaged.

Anyone travelling your way? (Brighton etc.)

David, that would be wonderful...do you have any bubble wrap? A couple of layers across the screen with a sheet of cardboard in between then should be adequate for postage, I should think. I'll pay the carriage charge, fear not. Or even a cardboard box with bubble wrap over the screen, maybe?

You could send it by DHL overnight, they seem to be pretty good and cheap too...

Just to say that the club has a 15" flat screen along with an old lap top, I have it here at work we just need to get it picked up some time, I gave it to the club some two or three years back to be used at any of the shows

I'll be able to do it this weekend. It is the parcelling it up safely that concerns me.

Have faith David...lay the monitor on a piece of bubble wrap on it's back, fold the wrap over the screen, lay a piece of thick(ish)cardboard over the wrap covering the screen, and fold the bubble wrap back over the cardboard and right around the monitor and tape down.

Either place the whole lot in a cardboard box, or wrap it all in corrugated cardboard, and tape well.

Done like that, the monitor will travel world wide safely. Trust me...I'm an(ex)Pickfords driver!!

Let me know the cost of packing and carriage and I'll reimburse you.

Well Richard that's the monitor working OK (The Philips one on the left.)
The next thing is finding a box.
Don't worry if it is a few days more - If I can't sort it today it will be next Friday because I'm not "at home" much during the week.

Thanks David...mine is dying fast, I fear...I think I'll have to resort to adjusting it with the good old Birmingham screwdriver!

I like the steam loco on the windowsill, can't quite make out the name on the tank?

Rob Roy - built by my Dad!

At the risk of making this like a rather mundane build log:

I now have some cardboard boxes!

Rob Roy...I'll search for that on the 'net, it looks interesting.

Great news on the boxes David, don't forget to let me know how much I owe you, please...

Thanks to David Forrest's kind donation, the AMS Control Centre now has a new slimline flat screen monitor hooked up and working perfectly.

    Thanks again David...
