I like building the unusual, hence the Dragonfish which was the first Concept boat I built, and now this one...at least people can't tell me this is wrong, or that's in the wrong place, when the boat itself never got any further than the drawing board!

Looks good definitely different it amazes me by changing a few bits it can look so different
It looks right and very sleek looking looks a little Russian.
Where do you trim and ballast the model I have been looking at the Darnell t class sub for a possible project in the near future (it won’t fit in the bath tub have to get a paddling pool)

I like Concept boats, they are always different in looks, some I've seen have been downright ugly!
The Dragonfish fitted perfectly in the bath for ballasting and trimming, but you got me wondering with this one...I've just measured my bath and it's 56" long...the boat is 54" long, but the bath has a tapered end, so it looks like I'll have to fill the bath to the brim and place the boat in corner to corner.
Before I became single again I had a purpose built test tank in the garden of my house, it was especially dug for the purpose of testing submarines, although it did end up with fish in it(it's a long story..don't ask!)
Any Darnell boat is a project in itself, the T class is one I never did build, although Fred has a nice one.

There will now be a slight delay to the build log...I'm in the process of ripping everything out of the boat, replacing the WTC with a bigger and rooomier custom built r/c box (made by Mark @ MMB) and totally altering the ballast system.
Instead of using a remote ballast tank, I'm going to replace it with an internal bladder, same idea as the Thunder Tiger Neptune uses.

Whilst awaiting the new radio box to arrive I made up the new ballast tank...
This consists of a 2000ml saline bag inside a 9" long section of 90mm acrylic tube, top filled and vented to air by two 1/16th" holes, all built to Nigel's design. (thanks Nigel!)
The bag itself has had the one way valve removed, and is rolled inside the cylinder...the cylinder has a central threaded rod running through it to secure the end caps, this is covered with a length of plastic tube so as not to stand any chance of puncturing the bag.

[hello new to subs , have la hull coming and gathering bits at moment.
now am confused ,i assume richards hull will fill with water through holes in the hull then it floats at normal waterline .following water pumped into the ballast tank in the wtc it goes to decks awash and then is driven under by foreward movement under plane control ? am i right?
so its a dynamic sub system not a static.
sorry the lack of understanding but gradually getting hang of this new game.

It is a tricky point of definition, I suppose, but I'm not sure how important definitions are anyway.
I would say that if the sub does not have any form of ballast tanks then it is a dynamic diver. Hence Richard's sub is a static diver? Sound like a job for "Sea Lawyers!"
I take it you have looked on the descriptions on the main AMS website?

Hi Geoff,
You may find that the sail you get in the kit will be too heavy...mine was, far too much top weight. I scratch built a complete new sail from 1.5mm styrene sheet, and remade the supplied 'scopes with styrene again and brass tube, saved an awful lot weight.

noted richard, yet to get mine, but ive found a nice pot which held andrews salts,just right tower shaps but it may prove too small,anyway nice tower for another project....take a look next time u in pharmacy.
