Dorji 1278 BDM modules for 458Mhz - Not working Empty Dorji 1278 BDM modules for 458Mhz - Not working

    Hi All,

I bought these a few months ago, when we we were doing the early work on LoRa. I did some successful configuration of them using the UART-to-USB converter board DAC02 from Dorji and then put them to one side.

In the last week, following the discussions with Geofrancis, it occurred to me that they could be a simple way of converting an off the shelf transmitter to 433 or 458Mhz by sending ppm data from the trainer plug.

I fell at the first hurdle! I can't configure them any more. Using the DRF software, I click on Open and then Read All and all I get is a Time Out Error.

Any one out there got any suggestions? The EN pin is pulled low with a link and I don't think I have damaged them.

    David

    Hi,
Any indications of which bit is generating the timeout error? Assuming its a PC talking to the module via the USB/UART converter to me it looks as if it could be either the PC s/ware timing out due to lack of response (can you check the USB/UART converter on something else?, is it set to pass/connect power?) or the MCU not tallking back to the PC. If it was a failure of the MCU-RF link I would expect some kind of functionality from the PC app.
Do you get the same error with no module connected?
Do you get the same error with both modules (if you have more than one)
Sound obvious but is there power on the module and is it the correct voltage, some USB converters can generate none/3.3v/5v depending on links.
Beyond that I would be getting a scope out!

    Thanks Simon.

I have worked my way through most of your list i.e.
    - I have used another USB/UART convertor and I get the same time out error with both of the modules.
    - I have also used the ADVANCED SERIAL PORT MONITOR software recommended by Dorji. This returns the name of the device on power up but otherwise doesn't "talk".

I found the comments on the Dorji by jgrome interesting (see below) and maybe the Dorji device is a bit of a dead end for our purposes. We have had a lot of success with the bare SX1278 already.

If any of the past contributors to this thread would like a couple of the Dorji devices (probably working?!) free to "have a go with" I will happily post them on to you. (UK preferred)

As is explained in LoRaLib contributing doc, that library is intended as a driver for bare SX127x radios. The one you have has a UART interface.

This library (RadioLib) was based on LoRaLib, and extended to cover all sorts of wireless modules - including those with UART interfaces. However, I don't plan on adding support for DRF1278DM, for the following reasons:

    1. Some users could be confused over what interface to use with SX127x - SPI or UART.
    2. DRF1278DM isn't the only UART SX1278-based module out there, with different incompatible UART command sets (e.g. RN2903).
    3. The UART interface only offers a very limited set of functions, when compared to bare SX1278. (e.g. no CAD, no interrupts, no FSK modem etc.)
    4. Most people use the bare SX1278. "
