I've started a new section to keep track of my restoration project, an original Darnell S class boat.

I've bought it for a good price from an old friend of mine, with the intentions of fully restoring it to it's former glory. It'll be a long job, I know...it's basically sound and well built, but there's a fair bit of work to do on it to get it looking anything like half decent, plus I need to completely fit out the interior, but I'm in no rush at all. It's a challenge, something I've never attempted before, but I like a challenge.

Photos below show the boat as it arrived earlier today.

Oh good grief, Geoff...I'm so sorry to hear that, here's wishing you well, mate. Let's hope for a speedy recovery.

I'll not be touching the S for a while yet though, a house move is on the cards in the very near future (if all goes well, I'll be sharing a nice disabled friendly bungalow with my sister...with a shed!) so I'd like to wait until I have the room available before I start on it.

You take care Geoff, get well soon,

If it comes off, it'll be around end of August/September time Fred...fingers crossed it goes according to plan.

The S won't be for sale, I plan to restore to it's original condition, as a sort of memorial to the Great Man and his Stoic.

    Hi Dick,

Just remembered that some were in the back of the shed I have an "S" class that I got off Steve Webb some time back, I just hope that when we move it comes to light and is still o.k.

Just can not wait to move, then I can start doing our hobby more.

    Hi Nigele

Did you ever get back to the S Type? I had one of these from new it had a massive problems with the top an bottom part not meeting with huge gaps and overhangs. It needed major surgery to get it wright but was well worth the effort.

Hope you share the renovation, I would love to see it come back to life.

    Regards
    Bernard

    Hi Bernard,
It was Richard that started doing the s class although it shows under my name, this was caused by the forum ownership changing to me,in so doing many of Richards post now show under my name, as far as I am aware he sold it on,he decided that given his health issues the boat was just to big and heavy for him.
