Alf B and Alfold Empty Alf B and Alfold

I had a good phone chat with Alf B yesterday.

He is very well and doing his usual brilliant, unorthodox things. (Those of you who know him will know what I mean. He is currently refurbishing model jet (gas turbine) engines using, among things, a microwave oven modified as a spot welder!)

Rumours that he is "To the dark side going" appear to be true because he had been building a scale replica of Donald Campbell's "Bluebird" using one of these jet engines.

You can have a look at it on his Facebook page.

He will be going to Alfold in a week or so. I told him that that there is not likely to be a good turn out of AMS members because we are mostly going to Norwich. (He may be coming to Norwich.)

But those of you who want to meet up with this remarkable man - head for Alfold. (Maybe you can convince him to stay with subs!)

I also had the mighty Alf on the phone at 0830hrs yesterday, I can't even answer Mother Nature's call nowadays without someone disturbing me!

I too have have been to "The Dark Side", but soon realised it was an expensive mistake and returned home to safety...American 3 point outrigger hydros and OPS.65 motors aren't cheap at all, I was going through motors at the rate of one every second race meeting. It had to stop...

Alf is something else, and as David says, he is a remarkable person to talk to. Get to Alfold and meet him...you won't regret it.
