All good things come to an end, Marius...the late Bernie Wood and I spent many a happy hour in that yard, taking photographs, climbing over all sorts of different submarines and generally being 'boys playing with big boy's toys'

It all comes down to money, Marius...or lack of. The sub museum at Gosport is all funded by donations, and they struggle for cash flow. U-234(I think)at Birkenhead is(or was)funded by donations, as are the ships that are preserved around the country...HMS Warrior, HMS Cavalier, SS Great Britain, Cutty Sark, HMS Victory...all funded by the public. And the public don't have the cash nowadays to give away...it's a shame, it really is.

Yes, Marius, but this is especially true in what used to be called Great Britain.Unlike many other nations there is such a terrible lack of a sense of history here.Our politicians who,as one can see from their many bad decisions have zero appreciation of the long term value of preserving such things for the future generations understanding of the past and do little to help. As Richard says it is left to a few dedicated enthusiasts to keep alive the memory of all the trains, boats ,planes ,industrial and other machines and the souls who worked them that have helped us get to where we are now. Sad really!
