    I've been after one of Matt Thor's Permit class kits for a long time now. Matt stopped producing kits a while back due to a health scare, so I thought that would be the end of it.

    Couple of days ago I heard from a couple of our American cousins (thanks Kevin and my old friend Erich Von Kloss) that Matt has been given the all clear, and was restarting production, so after a couple of emails I took the plunge (sorry about the pun...unintentional, I assure you) and ordered one.

    Matt is going to do a lot of pre-fabrication of the kit for me: ie, both hull halves will be ready trimmed, rear cone cut, rear planes assembled and fitted, etc...all the fiddley bits that I know I'll have trouble doing with my fingers in the state that they are in. I'd rather pay Matt to do these jobs properly for me, than me attempt them and make a cock of things.

    The boat is to 1/96th scale and comes out at 35" x 4", a perfect size for me.

    Matt Thor has very high quality models.
    Loyalhanna Dockyard is nearly finished with his new submarine hull molds.
    He will be producing WWII hulls?

    I'm really looking forward to getting this boat, Matt has been so helpful in doing a lot of the awkward jobs for me. My old friend Erich Von Kloss is building an identical boat, so I can watch what he does and hopefully learn a lot from his build.

    I've seen some of Matt's workmanship, and I've been very impressed with the attention to detail and the finish that gets on his hulls. I just hope I can do the kit justice!

    After a lot of research, I've decided to base my model on the USS Barb (SSN-596).

    Two reasons...my first Revell Gato was the original USS Barb (SS-220), and secondly the Barb has a very interesting history :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Barb_(SSN-596)

    My hopes of owning a Thor Permit class sub have been dashed, more's the pity...Matt Thor is suffering from a recurrence of his health problems and acting upon doctor's orders, has finally decided to stop production of his range of kits.

    I wish Matt well, here's hoping he soon gets over his health issues, and is back to his normal self once more.

    Too bad! Sorry to hear he is not well.
    Have you been following the Mobeus Skipjack build ? 42" length.
    Very nice model that is easily converted to RC and is made out of ABS plastic.

    Giovanni, I do not think Richard can wait that long. I can feel the excitement across the pond. I tried to find out when the Bronco Type XXIII would be released and price, but I did not find anything.
    Now I am looking forward to see what has Richard in mind!

    Me, too.
    I'm definitely buying the Bronco Type XXIII.
    The Bronco model was just announced for production so may not be on the shelves for a couple of months.
    This would make a very good carryon for the flight to the SubRegatta.
