    WWII Chariot Empty WWII Chariot

Post  reccymech Mon Feb 21, 2011 5:39 am

I know, not in the true sense of the wording of Submarine, however, maybe someone may have some drawings or plans of the WWII chariot as used by the Royal Navy, which was a copy of the Italian Navy Decima Flottiglia MAS manned torpedo.

I'm intending to build up a 1/6 scale, chances are it wont be a working model due to the buoyancy complexities. Lets just start at a static display and go from there.

Any information forthcoming will be greatly appreciated.

I take it you know that there are original ones at Royal Navy Sub Museum and, I think, the Imperial War museum?
(Imperial war museum certainly has an original "Pig.")

Cheers for the info, yeah maybe I'll try the sub museum or the IWM. Just thought there may be some blueprints, or scale drawings lurking around in someones shed.

Oh there are, but you will need to deal with individuals - because of copyright reasons, if nothing else.

In case you haven't heard of it, can I recommend a book

    Paul Kemp "Underwater Warriors",1996, Cassell

Rather good and contains quite a bit on the Chariot etc.

Maybe you should also consider joining the AMS (Only £12 a year)and we have members who do static models etc.

(Sorry about the sales pitch but I am the membership secretary!)

Steve's model worked very nicely. I've seen it several times (The rubber just perished naturally.)
It's kind of Andy (a non-member) to introduce you to some AMS members. Thanks.
